'Weird Times' is Matt Jencik's debut solo album, in which he presents ten pure
ambient, abstract drone tracks. Each song has been written using samples of his
old, unused guitar riffs as their source. In composing them, he took that era of
his songwriting through a process of 'burial' by deconstructing the rock guitar
riffs and arranging them into very usable ambient sounds, and thereby developing
a new way of composing freely. Limited to 300 copies.

'Body Consonance' is the follow up to 'Precipice', Byron Westbrook's critically
acclaimed debut-LP from 2015. Taking a turn towards greater immediacy and using
ecstatic abstract rhythms, this 2017 album is far from ambient. Also operating in
visual contexts, Westbrook utilizes the binaural qualities of the stereo format to
sculpt three-dimensional sounds in perpetual motion, producing works that are both
pointillistic and psychedelic. 'Body Consonance' is a meditation on physicality,
a virtuosic choreography of sonic textures, colours and shapes woven together.

The Parisian duo Egyptology is made up of Stéphane Laporte (Domotic) and Olivier
Lamm, two musicians who have been active since the late 90's in the French post
-electronica/avant-pop scene. 'Sur Les Autres Mondes' finds its title and a fitting
visual inspiration in a publication by French astronomer Lucien Rudaux (1937, Larousse)
in which he imagined the landscapes of other planets in our solar system through
scientific descriptions. Partly composed for a performance at the prestigious Louvre
Museum in Paris, the album is the band's first full length output since 2012. Their
sharp ear for detail and the epic worlds evoked through the album make for an auditory
voyage which is as graphic as the words inked by Rudaux. The duo is bringing the '70s
kosmiche genre back to life in a very fresh, bold way, offering a strong shot of pure
analogue sound and a fantastic, melodic approach to synth-based ambient music.

Based on the French duo's 2017 live setup and improvised sets, this album is the
quintessence of their music: raw, deep, murky, fascinating. The band's sound and
experimental songwriting have matured over the course of their albums, and with this
offering they have truly blossomed both in form and in content. Their brand of
experimental drone takes on a new, distinct shape and, in the space of 38 musical
minutes, sends out a message in a bottle to our western world, a foreboding message
of the communication breakdown and the effacement of our personal identities that

Matthias Puech is a builder of modular synths, and also a user of those synths, in
this case creating an abstract electronic soundscape that also evokes in some way
an Alpine hike. Alpestres actually has a lot of sonic focus and narrative drive for
a modular synth record, with evocative titles in various European languages to help
the listener off on their sonic trip up the mountain.

Canadian Ben Shemie offers up his first solo work, 'A Skeleton', an experimental pop
album of cold synthetic sounds with touches of psychedelica. Based on his live,
itinerant experiments, the whole album was recorded in a single take with no overdub.
The voices and instruments sound as if they were drawn from a not-too-distant future
in which artificial intelligence has taken over human life and mutated into an artist.
The refined, minimal sonic narration is executed with astonishing precision and
sensitivity. With 'A Skeleton', Shemie has definitely painted us a refreshing avant
-garde picture.

HITD 048 JOSIAH STEINBRICK MEETING OF WATERS LP 05.2019
The Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Josiah Steinbrick has released
his first collection of solo pieces. Given that its initial release was only in North
America, both on very limited edtions on cassette and vinyl, this crafted, essential
work righteously deserves a reissue. The album is composed of nine sculptural
environments, each a mixture of organic sketches and improvisations, recorded rapidly
and more or less free of any processing. The attention to detail and the depth of the
production on this record is magnificent, making the listener's journey through these
personal, cinematic landscapes more poignant.

HITD 049 MATT JENCIK DREAM CHARACTER LP 12.2019
Whilst all the songs on his debut album were created using the same sampling method
on the same instrument, this time the Chicago artist's approach is slightly different.
Using a combination of 4 track cassette, digital recording and sampling, he added
live improvisations and a wider selection of instruments including guitar, bass, organ
and string synth to his work. What Matt Jencik achieves on 'Dream Character' this
time is, like a powerful dose of psychedelic drugs, not to be taken lightly.
There are layers, and if you're prepared to dig you will find yourself drawn into
a maze of pathways that can take you in multiple directions, via feelings of escape
and release alongside suffocating claustrophobia, or soaring, triumphant beauty
paired with cold, lonely despair. These eight titles can both tuck you in and make
you feel like you've got to fight your way out. Either way there is great value in
the experience. There is a purity and a clarity to Jencik's sound, but one that can
only truly be accessed by listening with your own intention. Limited to 300 copies.

HITD 050 RAZEN ROBOT BJURO 2LP 03.2020
Each of the six improvisations on this double LP is made up of the barest of materials,
with the three musicians relying on a limited combination of tones. They lay their
focus on small variations in timbre, timing, articulation and vibration, which creates
a narrowing of consciousness, and feels something a bit like staring meditatively at
the minute changes of leaves blowing in the wind. Recorded over two sessions, in what
Razen themselves refer to as their detached playing style, 'Robot Brujo' stands as
an auditory magnifying glass of concentration, in all its uncanny and minimal glory.
It is yet another new step up from the deep listening ensemble from Brussels, after
10 years exploring music together.

Ameel. Consisting of lengthy, ambient acoustic sections that evoke warmth and shelter
- counter to the central character’s travails - the soundtrack is released on 3rd
January.
